Lava bowls are so called because of the surface-of-the-moon glaze used on the outside. It bubbles and explodes during firing and creates a wonderfully textured surface. Thrown on the wheel from stoneware clay and trimmed by hand. Food safe. Probably best not to put it in the dishwasher.
